Project brief

We were hired to create an outdoor entertaining space for a house that is anything but straightforward.

The Bloomhouse is known as the most unusual home in the world and is famously loved as a unique piece of Austin’s history. Our customer needed a space for outdoor entertaining that blended in perfectly with the home and landscape surrounding it.

With the home nestled in the hills of West Austin, the property posed a unique challenge because space was limited and on the side of a hill. We worked closely with our customer and designer to create a perfect space for gathering, enjoying the outdoors, and listening to music.

The build was a relatively basic substructure built with Pressure treated pine with a lot of concrete, metals, lags, screws, and through-bolts to ensure a top-quality bid. The customer chose a brown oak composite decking and a cable rail system with a drink rail on top.

One challenge of this project was the curved front facia and making sure that it all looked good against the jagged edges of the existing patio. Our crew did a masterful job of carefully cutting each board to fit neatly in its place. The decking was placed down with a hidden fastener system and within a week we had a beautiful space out there for our customer and their guests to enjoy for many years to come.

This was such a fun project to work on and everyone was thrilled with how it turned out. The Bloomhouse is available as an Airbnb and regularly hosts small private music events so the home and its outdoor space are regularly enjoyed by many who come to visit and will be for many years to come.
